Great and Holy Week
Holy Week is a significant religious holiday that remembers Jesus Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection. It lasts a week, beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Easter Sunday. Holy Week is one of the most important religious events in the country, and it is marked with great solemnity and devotion. Many participate in religious processions, reenactments of Christ's Passion, and other religious rites. Many Filipinos participate in the Visita Iglesia during Holy Week, which entails visiting seven churches and praying the Stations of the Cross in each one. On Maundy Thursday, some Filipinos participate in a reenactment of the Last Supper and the washing of the apostles' feet, known as the "Pabasa ng Pasyon." Good Friday is a day of fasting and reflection, and many Filipinos attend the "Senakulo," a street play depicting Jesus Christ's suffering and death. Easter Sunday, which commemorates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, concludes Holy Week. Easter Sunday Mass is attended by a large number of Filipinos, and there are also Easter egg hunts and other activities.
My holy week was great; my papa had the chance to go home from his work in Manila. After a few months, we were able to eat together again, bond, go to church, go for walks, and spend time as a family.
Overall, Holy Week is a time of deep religious reflection and devotion in the Philippines, and it is an important part of the country's cultural and religious heritage.
121st High School Day Celebration
Every year, schools celebrate their respective foundation days to commemorate the day when the school was founded or established. It is significant not only because of the number of years it has served the community to which the school belongs. This year, Ilocos Sur National High School (ISNHS) celebrates their 121st High School Day Celebration with the theme "Renewed Commitment in Defying Odds to Transcend Heights of Excellence and Solidarity".
The High School Day celebration was divided into three parts and started with a Thanksgiving mass. Then the singing of the National Anthem, Region Hymn, Ilocos Sur Hymn, Vigan City Hymn, and ISNHS Hymn led by the teachers' choir, messages, the Intermission Number of the selected grade 10 students, and awarding. After that, at 1 p.m., is the start of the field demonstration. The field demonstration is considered the highlight of the celebration. The chosen students from grades 7–12 performed calistenics Galaw Pilipinas, followed by the festival dances of the chosen grade 9 students and the hip-hop dance of the chosen grade 10 students. Then the teachers of each department and non-teaching staff played some fun traditional games.
Commemorating the school foundation day is significant since it gives the students and teachers the chance to learn about the humble beginnings of their educational institution. This could help them better appreciate the improvements they are currently enjoying.
